This study evaluates the effectiveness of Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform, as an interactive assessment tool in Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam, SKI) for fifth-grade students at MI Al-Kautsar, Sorong. A quasi-experimental, non-randomized pretest–posttest control design was applied over four weeks (N = 53; experimental n = 27; control n = 26). Both groups received the same pretest and posttest aligned to the SKI curriculum. Descriptive statistics and paired and independent-samples t-tests were employed to examine learning gains. Both groups improved, but the experimental group achieved a larger mean gain ( 20.67) than the control ( 10.31), a statistically significant difference. The pattern of results suggests that Kahoot!s real-time feedback, low-stakes competition, rapid pacing, and student-centered interface increased motivation and engagement, thereby accelerating content mastery in a text- and history-oriented subject. Effectiveness was consistent across baseline levels, indicating robustness of the observed treatment effect in typical classroom conditions. Results were educationally meaningful overall.

significantly improves learning outcomes in Islamic Cultural History for fifth-grade students., exhibited nearly double the learning gain compared to the control group ( 20.This improvement is likely attributed to Kahoot.s features—real-time feedback, competition, and student-centered design—which enhance motivation and engagement in a traditionally text-heavy subject.

Future research should investigate the long-term effects of Kahoot! integration on student retention and character development through longitudinal studies with larger, more diverse samples. Expanding the assessment beyond quantitative measures to include qualitative data, such as student interviews and classroom observations, would provide a richer understanding of the learning experience and identify potential challenges in implementation. Furthermore, exploring the effectiveness of alternative digital assessment tools alongside Kahoot! could reveal optimal strategies for enhancing Islamic education in the digital age, considering factors like accessibility and cost-effectiveness. These investigations should also examine how Kahoot! can be adapted to address diverse learning needs and promote inclusivity within the classroom, ensuring equitable access to its benefits for all students. Finally, research should focus on developing teacher training programs that equip educators with the skills and knowledge to effectively integrate Kahoot! and other digital tools into their pedagogical practices, maximizing their potential to transform Islamic education while upholding its core values.
