Problems in the world of education often occur today. One of them is violence committed by teachers as a reasonable punishment. Based on these problems, this study aims to determine teacher competence according to Imam Al-Ghazali in the book Ihya Ulumuddin. This study uses a qualitative approach with a type of library research based on the translation of the book Ihya Ulumiddin and various types of references such as books, journals, and articles that are relevant to the research being conducted. The results of this study show the competence professional characteristics according to Imam Al-Ghazali in the book Ihya Ulumiddin including: First, giving affection to his students. Second, emulating the Prophet. Third, not leaving advice to his students. Fourth, teaching in a gentle way. Fifth, not demeaning other knowledge. Sixth, conveying understanding according to the level of understanding of his students. Seventh, conveying material clearly. Eighth, practicing his knowledge. In addition, there are several factors that influence the professional competence of teachers, including academic qualifications, teaching experience, training and motivation.

The role of a teacher as an educator is crucial, as they are responsible not only for imparting knowledge but also for building character and morality in students.Imam Al-Ghazali emphasizes that a teacher should possess good morals in both teaching and interacting with students, serving as a positive role model.Al-Ghazalis perspective highlights that education is not merely a transfer of knowledge but a process of character formation, requiring teachers to embody ethical values.Therefore, continuous improvement of professional competence and understanding of these principles are essential for teachers to create a quality educational environment.

Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana prinsip-prinsip Al-Ghazali tentang kompetensi guru dapat diimplementasikan secara efektif dalam konteks pendidikan modern, termasuk pengembangan kurikulum pelatihan guru yang mengintegrasikan dimensi spiritual dan moral. Kedua, penelitian komparatif dapat dilakukan untuk membandingkan pandangan Al-Ghazali tentang kompetensi guru dengan teori-teori pendidikan kontemporer, guna mengidentifikasi titik temu dan perbedaan yang dapat memperkaya praktik pendidikan. Ketiga, penelitian kualitatif mendalam dapat dilakukan dengan melibatkan guru-guru dalam berbagai tingkatan pendidikan untuk memahami pengalaman mereka dalam menerapkan nilai-nilai Al-Ghazali dalam interaksi mereka dengan siswa, serta tantangan dan peluang yang dihadapi dalam proses tersebut. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih komprehensif tentang bagaimana membentuk guru yang tidak hanya kompeten secara profesional, tetapi juga memiliki integritas moral dan spiritual yang tinggi, sehingga mampu menjadi teladan yang baik bagi generasi muda.
