This research is based on the interest of the researcher in the perspectives of the madrasa Santris in understanding their Islamic history in Nusantara. This study reveals facts about the historical and cultural inheritance system of Islamic boarding school, which has formed variants of historical understanding in madrasas in Indonesia which are considered different, even contradictory with the historical understanding in formal school learning. The benefit of this research is as data and information regarding variant understanding of the nations history and culture among madrasas Santris in Indonesia, which is useful for the Education Office and the Ministry of Religion, as the education manager in the formal and Islamic one. The main generalization of this research is how big the gap in historical understanding among the santri and the students of formal schools is, as big as the possibility of the nations generation division in the future. The result is that they differ in: 1) understanding the past; 2) interpret the present, and; 3) designing the future. This situation will make them different in thought, direction and heart in development. This situation will form groups that weaken each other in building the nations civilization, which is a big loss for national development. The main recommendation of this research is to propose the formulation of a fair formal national historical narrative concerning the role of the Nusantara Muslims in their national history in some videos as an efforts to shape the nations collective memory.

The study concludes that the madrassa activists of the Islamic movement, adhering to the Syafii school of thought, believe Indonesia will forever be part of Darul Islam due to its historical governance under Islamic sultanates.The research highlights a gap in historical understanding between madrassa students and formal school students, potentially leading to future divisions within the nation.This difference stems from varying ideologies in history education, impacting their understanding of the past, present, and future.

Berdasarkan latar belakang dan temuan penelitian, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi secara mendalam dampak dari perbedaan narasi sejarah antara madrasah dan sekolah formal terhadap pembentukan identitas nasional dan potensi polarisasi generasi muda. Penelitian ini dapat menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan wawancara mendalam dan studi kasus untuk memahami pengalaman dan perspektif santri dan siswa sekolah formal. Kedua, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada pengembangan model pembelajaran sejarah yang inklusif dan komprehensif, yang mengakomodasi berbagai perspektif dan narasi sejarah, termasuk peran penting umat Islam Nusantara. Model ini dapat diuji coba di berbagai sekolah dan madrasah untuk mengukur efektivitasnya dalam meningkatkan pemahaman sejarah yang lebih holistik dan mendorong toleransi antar kelompok. Ketiga, penelitian lanjutan dapat meneliti bagaimana media sosial dan platform digital lainnya memengaruhi pembentukan memori kolektif bangsa, khususnya di kalangan generasi muda. Penelitian ini dapat menganalisis konten sejarah yang beredar di media sosial, mengidentifikasi tren dan pola narasi yang dominan, serta mengevaluasi dampaknya terhadap pemahaman sejarah dan identitas nasional. Penelitian ini penting untuk mengembangkan strategi komunikasi yang efektif untuk mempromosikan narasi sejarah yang akurat dan inklusif di era digital.
