This study develops a flipped class aimed at enhancing academic vocabulary acquisition among EFL non-English major college students in China, utilizing the ADDIE instructional design framework. The research involved a needs analysis with 85 students, design and development with 26 voluntarily participating students employing mind map techniques, and implementation and evaluation through a semi-closed questionnaire. Findings reveal that 98.72% of students rated their vocabulary proficiency as average or poor, highlighting a significant need for targeted instruction. Students valued aspects like meaning and pronunciation, while also recognizing the importance of connotation. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of the flipped class, with 96% of students expressing that it enhanced their academic vocabulary acquisition. Future studies could explore longer practice durations and further ways to leverage student-created vocabulary cards.
