Old Javanese literature, particularly the Kakawin Śiwarātrikalpa, holds significant importance within the Hindu community in Bali due to its captivating narratives and its embodiment of artistic, religious, moral, philosophical, and legal values. Tri Hita Karana, a concept emphasizing the balance between humans and God, humans and others, and humans and the natural environment, is crucial for achieving prosperity and harmony. This research, employing a qualitative descriptive approach and Human Relations theory, examines the application of Tri Hita Karana within the Kakawin Śiwarātrikalpa. The study reveals the interconnectedness of the three elements of Tri Hita Karana, highlighting the importance of humans striving for a safe, peaceful, and fulfilling life.

The study concludes that the concept of Tri Hita Karana—the balance between humans and God, fellow humans, and the natural environment—is intrinsically linked and cannot be separated.Humans, as central actors in life, must continuously seek a secure, peaceful, and happy existence. The Kakawin Śiwarātrikalpa illustrates this through the story of Lubdhaka, emphasizing the importance of dharma and a harmonious relationship with all aspects of existence.

Further research could explore the practical application of Tri Hita Karana principles in contemporary Balinese society, examining how these ancient values can address modern challenges like environmental degradation and social conflict. Additionally, a comparative study of Tri Hita Karana with similar concepts in other cultures could reveal universal principles of harmonious living. Finally, investigating the role of education in transmitting Tri Hita Karana values to younger generations is crucial for ensuring the continued relevance and practice of this vital philosophical framework, potentially through the development of culturally-sensitive curricula and community-based learning programs. These investigations should aim to understand how the core tenets of Tri Hita Karana can be adapted and integrated into modern life to foster a more sustainable and balanced future for Bali and beyond, contributing to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between human well-being, social harmony, and environmental preservation.
