21st-century education demands the development of a curriculum that is not only oriented towards mastering knowledge, but also on strengthening critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. One relevant approach to address these demands is the project-based curriculum. This article aims to comprehensively examine the design of a project-based curriculum in the context of 21st-century education by integrating the views of educational experts from within and outside the country as well as the latest research findings. The method used is library research by analyzing primary reference books, reputable national and international journal articles, and educational policy documents. The results of the study indicate that a project-based curriculum is able to create meaningful, contextual, and learner-centered learning, while strengthening 21st-century skills. The conclusion of this study confirms that the design of a project-based curriculum is relevant and strategic for implementation at various levels of education, with the note that it requires support from teacher readiness, infrastructure, and sustainable policies.

The study concludes that a project-based curriculum is a relevant and strategic approach for enhancing education in the 21st century.This curriculum effectively fosters meaningful, contextual, and learner-centered learning experiences, while simultaneously strengthening essential 21st-century skills.However, successful implementation necessitates robust support systems, including well-prepared teachers, adequate infrastructure, and consistent, sustainable policies.

Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk menginvestigasi efektivitas berbagai model pelatihan guru dalam mempersiapkan implementasi kurikulum berbasis proyek secara efektif. Selain itu, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada pengembangan instrumen asesmen autentik yang selaras dengan tujuan pembelajaran kurikulum berbasis proyek, sehingga dapat mengukur perkembangan keterampilan abad ke-21 secara komprehensif. Terakhir, studi komparatif dapat dilakukan untuk menganalisis keberhasilan implementasi kurikulum berbasis proyek di berbagai konteks sekolah dan sistem pendidikan, dengan mempertimbangkan faktor-faktor seperti sumber daya, dukungan kebijakan, dan budaya sekolah, guna mengidentifikasi praktik-praktik terbaik dan tantangan yang mungkin timbul. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana kurikulum berbasis proyek dapat dioptimalkan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dan mempersiapkan siswa menghadapi tantangan masa depan.
