Academic procrastination is a maladaptive behavior caused by individual perceptions of a task and self-ability. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of self-instruction techniques in reducing students academic procrastination, through individual counseling services. The method used is an experiment with one group pretest-posttest design, sampling using purposive sampling and totaling 5 students with high academic procrastination categories. The results showed that the use of individual counseling with self-instruction techniques was effective in reducing students academic procrastination.

Academic procrastination is a maladaptive behavior with long-term impacts if left unaddressed.Individual counseling utilizing self-instruction techniques demonstrably reduces academic procrastination.The studys limitations include a small sample size and a lack of a control group, suggesting future research should expand the sample and incorporate a control group for comparative analysis.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan dengan melibatkan jumlah partisipan yang lebih besar dan menggunakan kelompok kontrol untuk memperkuat validitas temuan. Studi kualitatif dapat menggali lebih dalam pengalaman subjektif siswa selama intervensi konseling, memahami mekanisme perubahan yang terjadi melalui teknik self-instruction. Selain itu, penelitian dapat mengeksplorasi efektivitas teknik self-instruction dalam kombinasi dengan pendekatan konseling lainnya, seperti terapi perilaku kognitif, untuk memberikan intervensi yang lebih komprehensif dan personal bagi siswa yang mengalami prokrastinasi akademik. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana teknik self-instruction dapat dioptimalkan untuk membantu siswa mengatasi prokrastinasi akademik dan meningkatkan prestasi belajar mereka.
