Educators in the 21st century are challenged to design and determine learning methods according to the concept of local wisdom to improve creative thinking skills and learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of creative thinking and student learning outcomes through the application of ethnoscience-based project-based learning (PjBL). This research employs a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group design. The sample consists of 20 third-semester biology education students from Muhammadiyah University of Maluku. The independent variable is the ethnoscience-based project-based learning model, while the dependent variables are student learning outcomes and creative thinking abilities in herbal botany. Data was collected using questionnaires and essay tests, comprising 15 items, and analyzed using the product-moment correlation test with SPSS version 23 at a significance level of 0.05. The results indicate a positive relationship between students creative thinking levels and learning outcomes, with a regression test result of 5.6%. Therefore, it is suggested that lecturers or teachers further enhance creativity and student learning outcomes by utilizing project-based learning methods based on ethnoscience.

This study demonstrates a positive correlation between students creative thinking abilities and their learning outcomes when utilizing an ethnoscience-based project-based learning (PjBL) approach. The implementation of PjBL, integrated with local cultural knowledge, fosters critical and creative thinking skills, ultimately leading to improved academic performance. These findings underscore the importance of incorporating local wisdom into educational strategies to optimize student engagement and achievement.

Future research should investigate the long-term effects of ethnoscience-based PjBL on students creative problem-solving skills and their ability to apply learned concepts to real-world challenges. Furthermore, studies could explore the optimal integration of digital tools and technologies within this learning framework to enhance student engagement and facilitate collaborative learning experiences. Another promising avenue for research is to examine the impact of teacher training programs focused on ethnoscience-based PjBL implementation on student outcomes, ensuring educators are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively facilitate this approach. These investigations will contribute to a deeper understanding of how to leverage local knowledge and innovative pedagogical methods to cultivate a generation of creative and adaptable learners prepared for the complexities of the 21st century.
