Regulating the speed of direct current motors is essential in a variety of industries. The speed of direct current can be controlled by adjusting armature resistance, voltage and field current. Voltage regulation can be achieved by utilizing an AC-DC buck-boost converter for increasing and decreasing voltage. Additionally, it is important to take into account the initiation of a DC motor. Initiating operation of a DC motor necessitates a significant current to prevent potential harm to the insulation. Due to this, it is important to keep the current low when starting a DC motor. One method to decrease the initial current is by using a soft starter, where the reference current is compared to the motors armature current. This research resulted in the development of a circuit that efficiently adjusts voltage levels with a pulse generator, making it easy to regulate the speed of direct current motors. A PI controller can also regulate the velocity of a direct current motor. During the trial, it was discovered that the initial current in a direct current motor never went beyond 23.7 amperes, making this technique highly efficient for initiating a direct current motor.

The research successfully developed a circuit for efficient voltage adjustment and speed regulation of DC motors.Simulation results demonstrated that the initial current during motor startup was effectively limited to 23.The use of a soft starter, particularly when integrated with a speed controller, proved highly efficient in controlling the motors initial current and achieving stable operation.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk menguji efektivitas metode ini pada berbagai jenis dan ukuran motor DC, serta dalam berbagai kondisi beban. Studi komparatif antara metode soft starter dengan metode kontrol kecepatan DC lainnya, seperti Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), perlu dilakukan untuk menentukan metode yang paling optimal dalam hal efisiensi energi dan kinerja. Selain itu, pengembangan sistem kontrol adaptif yang dapat menyesuaikan parameter soft starter secara otomatis berdasarkan karakteristik motor dan beban akan sangat bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan fleksibilitas dan keandalan sistem. Penelitian ini juga dapat diperluas dengan mengintegrasikan metode ini ke dalam sistem energi terbarukan, seperti panel surya atau turbin angin, untuk menciptakan solusi penggerak motor yang lebih berkelanjutan dan ramah lingkungan.
