This study discusses the musical pattern of keroncong and tenor instruments and their application to the songs “Cente Manis and “Sambel Cobek. Both of these instruments are the identity of the Jakarta style of keroncong. The study was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the origin term of keroncong musical instrument came from the sound of the instrument itself. The term of tenor refers to the term for the highest male voice. The techniques of playing musical instruments of keroncong and tenor were also found, namely rasguaedo (prung), strumming, arpeggio and by strumming on each string one by one. The techniques of playing the keroncong and tenor instruments include double ankle, double back play, old format and style. The four patterns of musical playing depend on the played songs and the agreement of the personnel.

Further research could explore the impact of globalization on the evolution of Jakarta keroncong, examining how contemporary musical trends are integrated into this traditional genre. Additionally, a comparative study of keroncong styles across different regions of Indonesia could reveal unique regional variations and their cultural significance. Finally, investigating the role of digital technology in preserving and promoting keroncong music, such as through online platforms and virtual performances, could help reach wider audiences and ensure its continued vitality. These investigations should involve detailed analysis of musical scores, interviews with musicians, and ethnographic observations of keroncong performances to provide a comprehensive understanding of this evolving art form. Such research will not only contribute to the academic understanding of Indonesian music but also inform strategies for its sustainable preservation and promotion for future generations, ensuring that the vibrant sounds of keroncong continue to resonate within Indonesian society and beyond.
