Irwan Jamal, the founder of the Pictorial Theatre and the Casanova Theatre, is an artist who has studied several art disciplines at once, including theatre, visual arts, literature, and music. Genetic influences from his fathers family, who are skilled in drawing, as well as his education and experience in theatre, have resulted in a form of theatre that is rich in visual expression. This is based on Sigmund Freuds theory of primary creativity which grows and becomes the foundation of ones creativity. This article will also discuss and analyse the influence of the visual arts on Irwan Jamals vision of theatrical creations in terms of the several works he has directed, both theatrical productions as well as films and music videos. Irwan Jamals artistic vision and expression, which was later categorized as a form of “expressionist theatre was very strongly influenced by the fine arts that Irwan Jamal also studied. The method used to analyse Irwan Jamals works (theatre and music videos) will also use the formal structure criticism method, which is usually used for the analysis of a painting. The presentation of critical works uses the method introduced by Edward S Feldman.

Irwan Jamals artistic vision in theatre and his inclination towards fine art are closely intertwined, both rooted in the post-impressionist style.His theatrical works emphasize visualization through form, color, and lighting, demonstrating a consistent artistic approach.The influence of his visual art skills significantly shapes his directorial choices and overall artistic vision, evident in both stage productions and cinematographic works.This study confirms that an artists skills beyond their primary field profoundly impact their creative vision.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi secara mendalam bagaimana pengaruh spesifik dari teknik pointillisme, seperti yang terlihat dalam karya visual Irwan Jamal, termanifestasi dalam elemen-elemen pementasan teaternya, seperti penggunaan pencahayaan, kostum, dan tata ruang. Selain itu, studi komparatif dapat dilakukan dengan menganalisis karya-karya teater sutradara lain yang juga memiliki latar belakang seni visual yang kuat, untuk mengidentifikasi pola-pola umum dan perbedaan dalam penerapan pengaruh visual pada karya teater mereka. Terakhir, penelitian kualitatif yang melibatkan wawancara mendalam dengan Irwan Jamal dan tim kreatifnya dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih kaya tentang proses kreatifnya dan bagaimana ia secara sadar mengintegrasikan elemen-elemen visual dari seni lukis ke dalam karyanya, serta bagaimana hal ini memengaruhi interpretasi penonton terhadap pesan dan makna yang ingin disampaikan dalam pertunjukannya.
