This review paper categorizes the methods in Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making (FMCDM) to identify the most widely used method for land clearing in plantation contexts. FMCDM models are used to assess parameters in multi-criteria-based decision making. The Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) method is found to be dominant. Other methods like Fuzzy Ordered Weighted Averaging (FOWA), Fuzzy Elimination Et Choix Traduisant la Realite (FELECTRE), Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS), and Fuzzy Artificial Neural Networks (FANNs) are less frequently used. Some research combines FMCDM methods to improve assessment, and some integrate FMCDM with GIS for land clearing. It is concluded that land clearing issues can be addressed through collaboration of several FMCDM models, developed by involving a multi-stakeholder decision model.

The research indicates that the FAHP method is predominantly used in land clearing decisions within the context of oil palm plantations.Most studies employ a combination of multiple FMCDM methods to address the complexity of the problem.Integrating FMCDM with GIS provides a valuable approach for visualizing and analyzing land suitability for clearing, ultimately supporting more informed decision-making involving various stakeholders.

Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk mengembangkan model integrasi FMCDM dengan data spasial multi-kriteria, menciptakan model Fuzzy Multi-Spatial Decision Making (FMSDM) yang dapat menghasilkan rekomendasi berbasis peta visualisasi. Selain itu, penelitian dapat mengeksplorasi penggunaan metode FMCDM yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif dari berbagai pemangku kepentingan, termasuk pemerintah, petani, dan investor, untuk memastikan keputusan yang lebih inklusif dan berkelanjutan. Terakhir, studi komparatif yang lebih luas perlu dilakukan untuk membandingkan efektivitas berbagai metode FMCDM, seperti FAHP, FTOPSIS, dan FELECTRE, dalam konteks perencanaan penggunaan lahan dan pengelolaan lingkungan, dengan mempertimbangkan faktor-faktor sosial, ekonomi, dan lingkungan secara komprehensif. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam pengembangan praktik pengelolaan lahan yang lebih berkelanjutan dan bertanggung jawab, khususnya dalam sektor perkebunan kelapa sawit.
