This paper explores one of the leading Islamic educational institutions and its roles in the dissemination of the Quran and community development in an urban setting in Indonesia. The rising trend of the program of the memorization of the Quran (taḥfīẓ) has attracted young Muslim generations. This empirical study finds that the PPPA Daarul Quran develops an Islamic institution that focuses mainly on the production of the Quran memorizers and the dissemination of this program throughout the country. With the large support from broader Muslim community and international networking, the institution is now a home for thousand students coming from across the country. In addition to regular study of the Quran, the institution also run charity programs that target the poor to offer easy access to Islamic education. By incorporating education and social service, the PPPA plays important roles not only in enhancing Islamic education but also in developing Muslim community.

The PPPA has successfully addressed the perceived difficulty in memorizing the Quran, attracting thousands of Indonesian Muslims, particularly the younger generation, to engage with the scripture.Beyond its educational role, the institution integrates social and charitable programs, fostering a holistic approach to Islamic practice and community development.Through strong networking and international collaborations, the PPPA demonstrates a commitment to both the quality of its students and the broader dissemination of Islamic values.

Based on the study, future research could explore the long-term impact of PPPA graduates on Indonesian society, examining their roles as religious leaders, educators, or community organizers. Furthermore, a comparative study of different Quran memorization institutions in Indonesia could identify best practices and challenges in fostering effective tahfidz programs. Finally, research investigating the role of technology, such as the Quran Call program, in expanding access to Quranic education and its impact on memorization rates among diverse demographics would be valuable. These studies, building on the PPPAs model, could contribute to a deeper understanding of how Islamic education can effectively address contemporary social needs and promote positive community change, particularly in urban environments. The PPPAs success in combining religious education with social service suggests a need for further investigation into the effectiveness of similar integrated approaches in other Islamic educational contexts, potentially leading to the development of more comprehensive and impactful community development programs. Exploring the sustainability of the PPPAs funding model and its reliance on charitable donations could also provide valuable insights for other Islamic institutions seeking to achieve financial stability and long-term growth.
