SMK Islam Kunjang is a relatively developing vocational high school. The students generally lacked motivation to study English, and their writing skills were poor, partly due to the teaching techniques used. The Examples Non-Examples technique, a cooperative learning strategy utilizing images and videos, was implemented to enhance students creativity and engagement in developing their writing abilities. A classroom action research (CAR) study was conducted with eleventh-grade students at SMK Islam Kunjang during the 2022–2023 academic year. Data was collected through observation, questionnaires, and tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students writing scores from 70.80% in cycle one to 81.66% in cycle two, with an increase in student interest in writing descriptive texts. Therefore, the use of the examples-not-examples strategy is recommended to improve students writing skills, particularly in descriptive texts.

The study demonstrated that the Examples Non-Examples technique effectively enhances the writing abilities of students at SMK Islam Kunjang.The implementation of this technique led to a noticeable improvement in student writing scores across two cycles of classroom action research.Furthermore, students exhibited increased engagement and motivation in learning to write descriptive texts.Therefore, the use of this technique is recommended for improving writing skills in similar educational contexts.

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan untuk memperdalam pemahaman mengenai peningkatan keterampilan menulis siswa. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk menguji efektivitas teknik Examples Non-Examples pada jenis teks lain, seperti teks argumentatif atau naratif, untuk melihat apakah teknik ini memiliki dampak yang sama secara universal. Kedua, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan implementasi teknik ini, seperti gaya mengajar guru, karakteristik siswa, atau ketersediaan sumber daya pembelajaran, untuk mengidentifikasi praktik terbaik dalam penggunaannya. Ketiga, penelitian dapat mengeksplorasi kombinasi teknik Examples Non-Examples dengan metode pengajaran lain, seperti pembelajaran berbasis proyek atau pembelajaran kolaboratif, untuk menciptakan pendekatan pembelajaran yang lebih komprehensif dan efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa secara berkelanjutan. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam pengembangan strategi pembelajaran menulis yang inovatif dan relevan bagi siswa di berbagai tingkatan pendidikan.
