Tomb pilgrimage is a religious tradition in Indonesia, particularly Lombok, with unique local wisdom rituals. Despite its long history as an Islamic identity, controversies exist, such as the statement by Mizan Qudsiyah. This research examines the motives of pilgrims and the meaning of rituals at the Keleang Tomb, which accommodates religious and cultural elements. It also investigates the values of religious moderation in this tradition, highlighting how local traditions build togetherness and avoid poverty. The study employs a qualitative approach with an interpretive phenomenological perspective, focusing on pilgrims experiences and utilizing a communication framework based on expectacy value theory. Pilgrimage to Keleang Tomb is not merely prayer but also gratitude, with the cemetery acting as an intermediary.

The Keleang Tomb pilgrimage is a significant practice for the local community, embodying spiritual and social values. The tradition involves a series of unique rituals, including burning timbung, making ketupat, and communal prayer, which strengthen interpersonal and intrapersonal communication. This pilgrimage fosters empathy, gratitude, and patience among participants, reinforcing religious moderation and community cohesion. Therefore, continued support and understanding of this tradition are crucial for maintaining peace and harmony.

Further research should explore the evolving role of the Keleang Tomb pilgrimage in the context of increasing religious conservatism and globalization, investigating how the tradition adapts to maintain its relevance and promote religious moderation. Additionally, a comparative study examining similar tomb pilgrimage traditions in other regions of Indonesia could reveal commonalities and differences in their expressions of religious moderation and local wisdom. Finally, research could focus on the potential of the Keleang Tomb pilgrimage as a model for interfaith dialogue and community building, examining how the tradition can be leveraged to foster greater understanding and cooperation between different religious groups. These studies should be conducted with sensitivity to the local context and involve collaboration with community leaders and religious scholars to ensure the findings are both academically rigorous and culturally relevant, contributing to a deeper understanding of religious moderation in Indonesia and its potential for promoting social harmony.
