Literary conflict functions as a cultural artifact, encoding socio-political tensions and ideological fractures. This study adopts a sociological realism framework to examine the depiction of social disparity and familial disintegration in Muhammad Husayn Haykals short story Mirāth. It argues that Haykals narrative conflicts function as a diagnostic tool, revealing structural asymmetries in Egyptian society during the early 20th century. The study finds four interlocking tropes of social reality: structural inequality, gender asymmetry, domestic discord, and moral erosion. The short story is not just a literary reflection but a critical social document, highlighting the mismanagement of inheritance and waqf systems as catalysts for communal strife.

The study reveals four forms of social reality.structural inequality, gender inequality, family conflict, and moral decline. The unequal management of inheritance and family wealth contributes to social tensions, weakens family solidarity, and reinforces patriarchal power relations.By reading Mirāth as a social document, the study contributes to the understanding of inheritance and waqf disputes as literary encodings of structural social inequality. However, the study is limited by its focus on social structures and conflicts, and future research is recommended to explore womens subjective experiences, Islamic feminism, and the relationship between Islamic inheritance law and its social implementation.

To further explore the complex dynamics of social inequality and family crisis, future research could delve into the subjective experiences of women within the context of Islamic feminism. Examining the intersection of Islamic inheritance law and its social implementation would provide valuable insights into the legal and cultural factors that contribute to gender inequality and family conflicts. Additionally, a comparative analysis of different literary works within the Arabic tradition could offer a broader understanding of how social realities are portrayed and critiqued through literature.
