This research aims to analyze and explain the influence of environmental uncertainty on competitiveness and fishery company performance, then aims to examine the mediating role of competitiveness. This research uses a quantitative approach, with data collection using questionnaires. The sampling in this study was determined based on criteria, represented by 3 people at the management level of 19 fishing companies (i.e. directors, operational managers, and supervisors), thus a total sample of 57 managers in the fisheries company. Data analysis and hypothesis testing use Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GSCA). Research findings indicate a positive and significant influence between environmental uncertainty on competitiveness and fishery company performance. Similarly, competitiveness has a positive and significant effect on fishery company performance. Lastly, competitiveness has a role as partial mediation of the influence of environmental uncertainty toward fishery company performance.

The research confirms that environmental uncertainty significantly impacts both the competitiveness and performance of fisheries companies.Competitiveness plays a crucial mediating role, meaning it partially explains how environmental uncertainty affects company performance. Therefore, adapting to environmental changes and fostering competitiveness are vital strategies for fisheries companies to improve their overall performance.

Future research should explore the impact of specific governmental policies on the environmental uncertainty faced by fisheries companies and how this influences their competitiveness. Furthermore, investigations into the role of technological innovation—beyond just its perception as uncertainty—as a driver of both competitiveness and performance within the sector would be valuable. Finally, a longitudinal study that tracks changes in environmental uncertainty, competitiveness, and firm performance over time could offer stronger causal inferences than current cross-sectional designs, potentially uncovering dynamic relationships within the fishery industry.
