Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a key component in smart grid systems and plays a vital role in reducing non‑technical losses in electricity distribution. However, empirical studies on its effectiveness in real operational contexts, especially in Indonesia, remain limited. This study evaluates the impact of AMI implementation on reducing meter reading errors, customer arrears, and unauthorized electricity usage at PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Bandengan. The research employs a mixed‑methods approach that combines quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with field officers. Quantitative data show that average monthly meter reading failures decreased by 97% after AMI implementation, achieving a financial saving of approximately IDR 245,792,276 per month. Disconnection operations due to arrears also decreased by 29.29%, yielding operational cost savings of IDR 7,807,696,000 per month. Additionally, the detection of electricity theft was improved using phase‑neutral current gap analysis based on MDMS data, enabling better targeting of inspection operations. This study contributes to the literature by providing operational‑level insights into AMIs effectiveness and supports smart grid strategies in Indonesia. Future research is encouraged to incorporate multi‑location comparisons and inferential statistical analysis to enhance generalizability.

Implementasi AMI pada PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Bandengan menghasilkan penurunan lebih dari 90 % pada gangguan pembacaan meter, menurunkan tagihan terlambat dari 286.Nilai nominal tunggakan menurun drastis dari Rp 181.969 205 205, menunjukkan peningkatan arus kas dan kepatuhan pelanggan.Pengurangan biaya operasional, termasuk pembacaan meter, inspeksi P2TL, dan pemutusan sementara, mencapai lebih dari Rp 8 miliar per bulan berkat otomatisasi fitur AMI.

Pertanyaan penelitian berikut dapat memperluas pemahaman tentang AMI di konteks Indonesia: Bagaimana perbandingan efektivitas AMI di wilayah perkotaan versus pedesaan dalam menurunkan kerugian non‑teknis? Sejauh mana integrasi sistem AMI dengan sistem manajemen energi rumah tangga dapat meningkatkan partisipasi konsumen dalam program penghematan energi? Dan, bagaimana model prediktif berbasis data MDMS dapat mengidentifikasi potensi kebocoran energi sebelum terjadi kerugian finansial signifikan? Kajian ini akan menilai variabilitas implementasi AMI di berbagai lokasi, mengevaluasi pengaruh kebijakan dan perilaku konsumen, serta mengembangkan alat prediksi untuk memaksimalkan efisiensi energi dan mengurangi kerugian non‑teknis.
