Gynura procumbens, commonly known as Daun Dewa or Sambung Nyawa, is a medicinal plant native to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. This plant is used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases due to its active compound content, including flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, tannins, rutin, kaempferol, and two potential antioxidants: kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside and astragalin. Gynura procumbens has the potential as a strong antioxidant agent, which can protect body cells from damage caused by free radicals. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Gynura procumbens in treating cancer and oxidative stress. The method used is a literature study, obtained 34 relevant scientific references regarding the antioxidant, antitumor, and anticancer activities of this plant. The results showed that the extract of these leaves has significant antioxidant activity and can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, especially in breast and colorectal cancer. These findings indicate the potential of Gynura procumbens as an alternative therapy in the prevention and treatment of cancer, as well as a source of natural antioxidants. Research shows that the leaf extract has significant antioxidant activity, with a low IC50 value, indicating its ability to capture free radicals. In addition, Gynura procumbens also shows promising anticancer and antitumor effects.

Gynura procumbens menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat, terutama berkat kandungan flavonoid dan fenoliknya yang dapat menangkap radikal bebas, serta menekan oksidasi lipid.Dalam aktivitas antitumor dan antikanker, mekanisme utamanya meliputi inhibisi enzim sitokrom P450 yang mencegah pembentukan karsinogen, penurunan proliferasi sel kanker melalui peningkatan apoptosis, dan penghambatan metastasis serta angiogenesis.Potensi terapeutik ini menjadikan Gynura procumbens sebagai kandidat yang menjanjikan untuk pengembangan agen antioksidan dan antikanker berbasis bahan alami.

Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk menguji efektivitas Gynura procumbens dalam kombinasi dengan terapi kanker konvensional, seperti kemoterapi atau radioterapi, untuk melihat apakah dapat meningkatkan efektivitas pengobatan dan mengurangi efek sampingnya. Selain itu, studi mendalam mengenai mekanisme molekuler yang mendasari aktivitas antikanker Gynura procumbens, termasuk identifikasi target gen dan jalur sinyal yang terlibat, sangat penting untuk pengembangan obat berbasis tanaman ini. Terakhir, penelitian klinis yang melibatkan partisipan manusia diperlukan untuk mengkonfirmasi efektivitas dan keamanan Gynura procumbens sebagai agen pencegahan dan pengobatan kanker, serta untuk menentukan dosis optimal dan potensi interaksi obat.
