The determination of village boundaries is a crucial aspect of village governance to ensure legal certainty, administrative order, and the prevention of conflicts between villages. However, in practice, boundary disputes still frequently occur, as experienced by Gampong Meurandeh Dayah, Langsa Lama District, Langsa City, following the regional expansion in 2010. The lack of clear administrative boundaries has led to various issues, including land ownership disputes, difficulties in resource management, and obstacles to public service delivery. This study employs an empirical legal method with a sociological approach. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with village officials, and an analysis of relevant regulations, such as Law No. 6 of 2014 on Villages and Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 45 of 2016. The findings indicate that efforts to resolve the dispute have been undertaken, including field inspections and the creation of a territorial map, but these have not yet resulted in final legal certainty. A multi-faceted approach is required, involving administrative measures through boundary remapping, legal measures through binding village regulations, and social measures through mediation and customary deliberation. These steps are expected to resolve the boundary dispute fairly and sustainably.

The study concludes that the determination of village boundaries is regulated by Indonesian laws, including Law No.6 of 2014 on Villages and Permendagri No.45 of 2016, emphasizing the need for legal certainty and conflict prevention.Despite efforts to resolve the dispute in Gampong Meurandeh Dayah, final legal certainty remains elusive due to ongoing disagreements and the absence of binding regulations.A comprehensive approach encompassing administrative remapping, legal frameworks, and social mediation is crucial for a fair and sustainable resolution to the boundary dispute.

Further research should investigate the effectiveness of integrating GIS technology into the boundary determination process to enhance accuracy and transparency. Additionally, a comparative study examining boundary dispute resolution mechanisms in other autonomous regions of Indonesia could provide valuable insights for Gampong Meurandeh Dayah. Finally, research exploring the role of customary law and traditional mediation practices in resolving land disputes could offer alternative approaches that complement formal legal frameworks. These studies should focus on developing a standardized and participatory boundary demarcation process that prioritizes community involvement, legal clarity, and sustainable resource management, ultimately contributing to more harmonious inter-village relations and improved governance in the region. This will require a minimum of 150 words to fully explore the nuances of these research directions and their potential impact on local governance and community well-being.
