The technical competency and soft skills of employees are a crucial factor for an organization to improve employee performance. However, the existing literature ignores the psychological aspects that motivate employees to perform, such as job satisfaction. The study aims to explore the role of training and competence in positively influencing employee satisfaction and performance. Current research is designed as the literature review study and uses a qualitative descriptive method. The latest five-year literature review on training and competence was obtained from the national journal database indexed by Garda Rujukan Digital, and Science and Technology Index. Further data were selected and analyzed to answer the study questions. The study demonstrates that there is a very positive influence between training and competence with job satisfaction. In addition, high competence has a crucial role in encouraging performance achievement according to organizational standards. Theoretically, this research contributes to the existing literature review on human resource development, with a focus on the strategic role of training to obtain employee competency.

This literature review concludes that training and competence significantly encourage job satisfaction and employee performance.Training is a crucial organizational effort to support employee career development, and competence is a key determinant of performance improvement.Ultimately, enhancing these aspects leads to increased employee productivity and the achievement of organizational goals.

Future research should broaden the scope of data sources beyond nationally accredited journals, incorporating databases like Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, Crossref, and PubMed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the topic. Furthermore, studies could investigate the specific types of training programs most effective in fostering both competence and job satisfaction within diverse organizational contexts, moving beyond general assessments. Finally, exploring the moderating effects of organizational culture and leadership styles on the relationship between training, competence, job satisfaction, and employee performance would offer valuable insights for practitioners seeking to optimize human resource development strategies. These investigations should consider the nuances of the Indonesian workforce and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of how to cultivate a highly skilled and satisfied workforce capable of driving organizational success.
