The background of this study focuses on the low understanding of the Javanese script caused by a monotonous and uninteresting learning approach. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of joyful learning in increasing students interest and knowledge of the Javanese script. This study was conducted at SD 1 Padurenan, focusing on fourth-grade students. The method used is a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 17 students as the sample. Data were collected through written tests, interviews, and documentation. The study showed a significant increase in understanding of Javanese script after implementing joyful learning, with an average pretest score of 50 and a posttest score of 82.49. The N-Gain test yielded an average score of 0.6564, indicating a fairly substantial increase. The conclusion of this study shows that applying the principle of joyful learning effectively improves students understanding of Javanese script concepts, with implications for the importance of using innovative approaches to learning. The joyful learning principle was applied in this study through the use of the Teams Games Tournament learning model, Javanese script snakes-and-ladders learning media, and student feedback during the learning process.

The study concludes that the implementation of joyful learning principles significantly improved the understanding of Javanese script among fourth-grade students at SD 1 Padurenan.This improvement is evidenced by the N-Gain value of 0.The application of the Teams Games Tournament model and Javanese script snake-and-ladder media, coupled with positive feedback, effectively enhanced student engagement and comprehension.Therefore, a shift towards more engaging and student-centered pedagogical approaches is recommended, particularly for subjects like Javanese script that are often perceived as challenging.

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk menguji efektivitas model pembelajaran yang sama pada tingkat pendidikan yang berbeda, seperti sekolah menengah pertama atau sekolah menengah atas, untuk melihat apakah prinsip-prinsip pembelajaran yang menyenangkan tetap relevan dan efektif. Kedua, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada pengembangan dan evaluasi berbagai jenis media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis teknologi, seperti aplikasi seluler atau platform daring, yang dirancang khusus untuk meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman siswa terhadap aksara Jawa. Pengembangan media ini perlu mempertimbangkan aspek-aspek budaya lokal dan kebutuhan belajar siswa. Ketiga, penelitian kualitatif dapat dilakukan untuk menggali lebih dalam pengalaman belajar siswa dan guru dalam menerapkan prinsip-prinsip pembelajaran yang menyenangkan. Penelitian ini dapat menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam, observasi kelas, dan analisis dokumen untuk memahami bagaimana siswa merasakan pembelajaran aksara Jawa yang menyenangkan dan bagaimana guru mengadaptasi strategi pembelajaran mereka untuk memenuhi kebutuhan siswa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih komprehensif tentang faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan implementasi pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan memberikan rekomendasi praktis bagi guru dan pembuat kebijakan.
