This study aims to analyze junior high school students abilities and comprehension of Muhammadiyah 3 Surabaya material on flat-sided spatial structures. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were junior high school students of Muhammadiyah 3 Surabaya class VIII, selected randomly, namely 10 students. The instrument used in this study was descriptive questions consisting of 6 questions, divided into 3 comprehension questions and 3 creative thinking questions. The results of the research from several students who have been working on questions showing low creative thinking students in understanding and solving questions and flat-sided geometric material because it can be seen from the results that the percentage of student achievement is low. The psychology of students also can affect low understanding ability and students creative thinking.

The mathematical understanding and creative thinking abilities of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Surabaya on the material on flat-sided spatial structures are low.The low ability of students to understand concepts and creative thinking skills is related to the learning approach and the psychological condition of students.The use of innovative learning methods and a focus on improving comprehension skills and creative mathematical thinking are recommended for further research.

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan. Pertama, perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai efektivitas penggunaan metode pembelajaran inovatif, seperti problem-based learning atau project-based learning, dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa pada materi geometri. Kedua, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada pengembangan instrumen penilaian yang lebih komprehensif untuk mengukur kemampuan pemahaman konsep dan kreativitas berpikir siswa secara lebih akurat. Ketiga, studi lanjutan dapat menggali lebih dalam faktor-faktor psikologis yang mempengaruhi kemampuan pemahaman dan kreativitas berpikir siswa, seperti motivasi belajar, kepercayaan diri, dan gaya belajar, serta mencari strategi intervensi yang tepat untuk mengatasi hambatan-hambatan tersebut. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam upaya peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran matematika dan pengembangan potensi siswa secara optimal.
