Distance learning in various educational institutions poses significant challenges in creating effective interaction between lecturers and students. This study aims to analyze the implementation of learning model innovations to enhance student engagement in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at STAI Al-Falah Cicalengka, Bandung. A mixed-method descriptive approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data obtained through interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires. The findings reveal that the integration of Learning Management System (LMS) platforms, instructional videos, and communication applications such as Google Meet and Zoom significantly increased student participation in class discussions, collaborative activities (84%), task accuracy (90%), and technology utilization (82%). Statistical analysis showed a correlation coefficient of 0.85, indicating a strong positive relationship between student engagement and the use of technology in learning. These results suggest that technology-based learning model innovations can optimize the learning experience and improve the quality of education in Islamic higher education.

This research highlights the potential of technology-based learning models to enhance student engagement in distance learning, particularly in Islamic Religious Education (PAI).The study reveals that the integration of digital platforms, such as LMS, instructional videos, and communication tools, significantly increases student participation, accuracy, and technology utilization. The correlation between technology use and student involvement is strong, indicating that optimal technology utilization leads to higher student engagement. However, challenges remain, including limited lecturer skills in utilizing interactive features, unstable internet connections, and the need for student discipline in independent learning. To address these issues, the study proposes innovations such as integrating digital interaction tools, providing lecturer training, and ensuring equal access to technological resources. The application of technology offers new opportunities to deliver relevant and interactive teaching materials, especially in the PAI study program.By combining interactive media and practical simulations, technology can bridge traditional learning challenges and foster a more inclusive and future-oriented education system.

To further enhance student engagement in distance learning, future research could explore the development of personalized learning paths within LMS platforms. By leveraging adaptive learning algorithms, these platforms can tailor educational content to individual student needs, ensuring a more engaging and effective learning experience. Additionally, investigating the potential of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies in Islamic education could open up new avenues for immersive and interactive learning experiences, particularly in subjects like PAI that require a deeper understanding of religious concepts and values. Finally, given the challenges of maintaining student-lecturer interaction in online settings, future studies could focus on designing and implementing innovative assessment strategies that encourage active participation and provide opportunities for meaningful feedback and dialogue.
