The purpose of this study is to investigate (1) the effect of peer group communication on students morals and (2) the effect that social media use has on students values. This study was carried out in the Pancur Batu District of North Sumatra Provinces Deli Serdang Regency, Indonesia. Our population was 1,207 Muslim students at the state junior high school in the Pancur Batu District, Indonesia. In the end, we selected 300 students as our samples using the proportional stratified random sampling technique. For the research instrument, we employed a questionnaire that was developed to collect information regarding peer group communication and the use of social media among junior high school students in Pancur Batu, Deli Serdang, Indonesia. Path analysis was used to analyze and synthesize research data. The analysiss findings indicate that social media usage and peer group communication both directly affect students emotions and individuals selves, with a path coefficient of 0.213 for social media use and 0.179 for peer group communication. According to the studys findings, peer contact and social media significantly and positively affect students attitudes.

This research concludes that peer group communication and social media use significantly influence the morals of junior high school students in Pancur Batu District.The study highlights the importance of positive peer interactions and responsible social media usage in fostering good character.Therefore, educators, parents, and policymakers should prioritize guidance and monitoring to ensure students utilize these platforms constructively and maintain strong moral values.

Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk mengkaji secara mendalam dampak spesifik berbagai jenis konten media sosial terhadap perkembangan moral siswa, termasuk pengaruh konten positif dan negatif. Selain itu, penting untuk meneliti efektivitas berbagai intervensi pendidikan yang dirancang untuk meningkatkan literasi media dan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dalam menghadapi informasi di media sosial. Sebagai tambahan, penelitian di masa depan dapat mengeksplorasi peran keluarga dan lingkungan masyarakat dalam memoderasi pengaruh komunikasi kelompok sebaya dan penggunaan media sosial terhadap karakter siswa, dengan mempertimbangkan konteks budaya dan sosial yang unik di Indonesia. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang lebih komprehensif tentang bagaimana memaksimalkan manfaat dan meminimalkan risiko penggunaan media sosial dan interaksi kelompok sebaya bagi perkembangan moral generasi muda.
