The Tamiang Islamic Kingdom is one of the oldest kingdoms on the east coast of Aceh, bordering Haru Bay and Kampai Island of Pangkalan Susu. Its north serves as the front line of defense in the Malacca Strait, part of the sovereignty of the Samudra Pasai Islamic Kingdom, in the 12th century AD. In 1350, the country of Tamiang faced the challenge of the expansion of Majapahit commandeered by Patih Gaja Mada, who wanted to unite all regions in the archipelago following the Palapa Oath during the authority of King Hayam Wuruk Mahapatih Ratu Tribhuwanatunggadewi. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method, then collected data through literature study, document analysis, and utilizing historical evidence of the Tamiang kingdom on the east coast of Aceh. The results showed that the students poor skills in reading and analyzing historical sources were due to the lack of usage of historical evidence as a source of local history learning. Therefore, this research also contributes to the adoption of historical evidence of the Tamiang kingdom on the east coast of Aceh as a historical learning source for high school students to improve the Use of Primary Source Evidence skills.

The study highlights the underutilization of local history, specifically the Tamiang Kingdom, as a learning resource in high school history education.This lack of engagement contributes to students difficulties in reading and analyzing historical sources.Consequently, the research advocates for integrating historical evidence from the Tamiang Kingdom into the curriculum to enhance students skills in utilizing primary sources and fostering a deeper understanding of local history.

Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengembangkan modul pembelajaran sejarah berbasis bukti-bukti sejarah Kerajaan Tamiang yang dirancang khusus untuk meningkatkan keterampilan analisis sumber primer siswa. Kedua, studi komparatif dapat dilakukan untuk membandingkan efektivitas penggunaan sumber sejarah lokal dengan sumber sejarah nasional dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang sejarah. Ketiga, penelitian kualitatif mendalam dapat dilakukan untuk menggali persepsi guru sejarah tentang manfaat dan tantangan penggunaan sumber sejarah lokal dalam pembelajaran, serta untuk mengidentifikasi strategi yang efektif untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran sejarah di sekolah menengah atas dan menumbuhkan apresiasi siswa terhadap warisan sejarah lokal.
