This study aims to analyze research trends on halal tourism using a bibliometric approach. Halal tourism is a growing segment of the tourism industry, driven by the increasing Muslim population and the demand for services that comply with sharia principles. Using the Scopus database, this study collected and analyzed 375 articles published in the period 2015–2025. The analysis was carried out using the bibliometric method using VOSviewer software to identify publication trends, dominant keywords, author collaboration networks, and research distribution by country and field of study. The results showed that publications on halal tourism have increased significantly, especially in the aspects of sustainability and digitalization of halal tourism services. This study found that Indonesia and Malaysia are the countries with the highest number of publications.

The study reveals a significant growth in research on halal tourism in recent years, particularly within the fields of business, management, and accounting, as well as the social sciences.Indonesia and Malaysia are the leading countries in scholarly output, reflecting their prominent roles in the global halal tourism industry.Despite existing research, gaps remain regarding government policies, the integration of Islamic financial technology, and the experiences of Muslim tourists from minority-Muslim countries, presenting opportunities for future research.

Future research should investigate the role of government policies in fostering robust halal tourism ecosystems, examining how regulatory frameworks and public-private collaborations can support the sectors growth. Furthermore, exploring the integration of Islamic financial technology (FinTech) – including sharia-compliant payment systems and investment instruments – into halal tourism could unlock new opportunities for innovation and inclusivity. Finally, research should focus on understanding the unique experiences and needs of Muslim tourists from minority-Muslim populations, considering their specific challenges and expectations to create more tailored and welcoming travel experiences. These investigations, building upon existing literature, will contribute to a more sustainable, ethical, and globally inclusive halal tourism industry, catering to the evolving demands of a diverse Muslim traveler base and promoting economic growth within the sector.
