Quality of life has become a broad-based construct used to evaluate various aspects of human well-being during bereavement. Studies linking quality of life with the period of individuals bereavement are lacking. Therefore, this study investigates personality traits, resilience and perceived social support as predictors of quality of life among bereaved young adults in Ibadan. An ex-post facto design utilizing a cross-sectional survey was used while purposive sampling technique was used to select the study location. Data were collected from 187 bereaved young adults using validated questionnaires and analyzed using multiple regression and independent samples t-test. Two hypotheses were tested and accepted at p <.05 level of significance. The result demonstrated that personality traits, resilience and perceived social support jointly predicted quality of life among study participants. In addition, extraversion, agreeableness and perceived social support independently predicted quality of life among study participants. Furthermore, there was a gender difference in quality of life among study participants. The study concludes that interactions of personality traits, resilience and perceived social support are good predictors of quality of life among study participants. The study recommended design and implementation of psychological counseling, resilience training, and personality profiling to help bereaved individuals to improve quality of life.

The study confirmed that personality traits, resilience, and perceived social support significantly predict quality of life among bereaved young adults.Specifically, extraversion and agreeableness, alongside perceived social support, independently contribute to a higher quality of life.Furthermore, female bereaved young adults reported a better quality of life compared to their male counterparts. These findings underscore the importance of addressing these factors in interventions aimed at supporting bereaved individuals.

Future research should explore the nuanced relationship between specific coping mechanisms and quality of life among bereaved young adults, potentially utilizing longitudinal designs to track changes over time. Investigating the role of cultural factors and religious beliefs in the grieving process and their impact on quality of life could provide valuable insights for culturally sensitive interventions. Additionally, studies could examine the effectiveness of different types of psychological interventions, such as group therapy or mindfulness-based practices, tailored to the unique needs of bereaved young adults, with a focus on enhancing resilience and fostering social connections. These investigations, building upon the current studys findings, could contribute to the development of more effective and personalized support systems for those navigating the challenges of bereavement, ultimately promoting improved well-being and a more fulfilling life after loss.
