Malang City faces environmental challenges, including inadequate sanitation and water management, which are not fully addressed. This study assesses the quality of clean water from non-Local Water Supply Utility in Merjosari Village, undergoing land-use transformation. A quantitative observational approach using the National Sanitation Foundations Water Quality Index (NSF-WQI) method was employed. Results showed a water quality index of 77.53, categorized as good. However, several parameters exceeded clean water standards, including DO, BOD, pH, and Nitrate. In conclusion, land cover change in Merjosari does not significantly affect water quality, but parameter values exceeding standards pose a potential public health risk.

The study concludes that while the overall water quality in Merjosari Village is categorized as good based on the NSF-WQI, several key parameters exceed established clean water standards. These exceedances, particularly in DO, BOD, pH, and Nitrate levels, indicate potential organic pollution and pose risks to public health. Therefore, despite the land cover changes not significantly impacting overall water quality, continuous monitoring and mitigation strategies are crucial to safeguard water resources and public well-being.

Further research should investigate the long-term impacts of land use changes on groundwater recharge rates and the vulnerability of the aquifer to contamination from agricultural runoff and domestic waste. A comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of existing sanitation systems in Merjosari Village is needed, coupled with the exploration of decentralized wastewater treatment technologies suitable for peri-urban areas. Additionally, studies should focus on the development and evaluation of community-based water quality monitoring programs, empowering local residents to actively participate in the protection of their water resources and promoting sustainable water management practices. These investigations, building upon the current studys findings, will provide valuable insights for informed decision-making and the implementation of effective strategies to ensure the long-term availability of safe and clean water for the community.
