This study aims to analyze the role of context and register in the TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) titled Why Broken Hearts Hurt - and What Heals Them by Yoram Yovell. TED Talks, renowned for their educational and inspirational content, often require a delicate balance between formal presentation and personal engagement. This research employs a descriptive qualitative discourse analysis approach to examine how Yovell utilizes contextual elements and linguistic register to enhance the effectiveness of his communication. The analysis focuses on three main components: the physical setting, participant dynamics, and situational factors influencing the talk. It further investigates the lexical choices, tone, and style employed by Yovell. This study highlights the importance of adapting language and style to fit the context and audience, offering practical insights for speakers and educators aiming to communicate complex ideas effectively.

The study demonstrates that context and register are crucial for effective communication, as exemplified in Yoram Yovells TED Talk.The TED Talk setting allowed Yovell to create a balanced atmosphere of professional expertise and emotional connection.His personal story about his fathers death captured the audiences attention and established a strong emotional bond.Ultimately, considering context and adapting to the audience can enhance understanding and engagement with complex topics, providing practical insights for speakers and educators.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan dengan membandingkan analisis konteks dan register pada berbagai jenis TED Talks, misalnya membedakan antara topik sains, teknologi, dan humaniora, untuk melihat apakah terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh para pembicara. Selain itu, studi kualitatif mendalam dapat dilakukan dengan mewawancarai para pembicara TED Talks untuk menggali lebih dalam mengenai kesadaran mereka terhadap konteks dan register, serta bagaimana mereka secara sadar menyesuaikan gaya bahasa mereka. Terakhir, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada dampak penggunaan visual dan elemen multimedia dalam TED Talks terhadap pemahaman dan daya tarik pesan, serta bagaimana elemen-elemen ini berinteraksi dengan konteks dan register yang digunakan oleh pembicara. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih komprehensif mengenai dinamika komunikasi yang efektif dalam konteks presentasi publik dan pendidikan.
