Border areas often experience various problems, one of which is infrastructure development, thus requiring special management so as not to cause ongoing problems. This study aims to determine how government accountability affects border management in Riau Province. The research method used is the descriptive-qualitative method. The results of the study show that accountability carried out by local governments in border management in Riau Province is still experiencing various obstacles. Weak accountability in law enforcement causes accountability constraints in the process of resolving border management problems in Riau Province. Accountability of government programs and policies in border area management is hampered by limited funds for border area development and a lack of coordination among relevant agencies.
Akuntabilitas pemerintah daerah dalam pengelolaan perbatasan di Provinsi Riau masih mengalami berbagai kendala.Pertama, akuntabilitas hukum di wilayah perbatasan masih memiliki masalah dari perspektif hukum internasional dan penegakan hukum, salah satunya adalah peredaran narkoba ilegal.Kedua, akuntabilitas proses masih lemah dalam pengelolaan wilayah perbatasan yang dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Provinsi Riau.Ketiga, akuntabilitas program telah dilakukan oleh Badan Pengelola Perbatasan Daerah di Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti melalui beberapa program unggulan namun masih mengalami masalah dalam koordinasi antar instansi terkait.
Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan dapat diajukan untuk memperdalam pemahaman mengenai pengelolaan perbatasan di Indonesia. Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengkaji efektivitas implementasi kebijakan terpadu dalam pengelolaan perbatasan, dengan fokus pada peningkatan koordinasi antar instansi pemerintah dan partisipasi masyarakat lokal. Kedua, studi komparatif dapat dilakukan dengan membandingkan model pengelolaan perbatasan di Riau dengan provinsi lain yang memiliki karakteristik geografis dan sosial-ekonomi serupa, untuk mengidentifikasi praktik terbaik dan tantangan yang umum dihadapi. Ketiga, penelitian kualitatif mendalam dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi persepsi dan pengalaman masyarakat perbatasan terhadap akuntabilitas pemerintah, serta dampaknya terhadap kesejahteraan dan keamanan mereka. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan bagi perumusan kebijakan yang lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan dalam pengelolaan perbatasan Indonesia, serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup masyarakat di wilayah perbatasan.
