The objectives of this community service activity are: (1) socialization of the concept of food sovereignty to the community in building sustainable welfare. (2) increasing public understanding of the relationship between food independence and quality of life. (3) encouraging community participation in the practice of food sovereignty based on intercultural communication through deliberation.

A communication strategy rooted in local knowledge can enhance awareness.however, sustained efforts and institutional backing are essential for achieving collaboration with government entities, non-governmental organizations, and the community, particularly the youth. This initiative demonstrates that food sovereignty is not merely a rural concern but an inclusive urban agenda.By connecting food sovereignty with quality of life issues such as health, environmental sustainability, and economic independence, the concept became personally relevant to urban residents.

Future research should explore the long-term impact of integrating local wisdom into urban food policies, specifically examining the effectiveness of food barn initiatives and urban farming programs in enhancing food self-sufficiency. Furthermore, studies could investigate the role of multi-stakeholder partnerships – involving government, academia, the private sector, and local communities – in developing inclusive food policies that prioritize community participation and address the unique challenges of urban food systems. Finally, research is needed to understand how to effectively engage younger generations in food sovereignty initiatives, potentially through innovative educational programs and digital platforms that highlight the connection between food choices, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability, fostering a sense of responsibility and active participation in building resilient local food systems. These investigations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how to leverage local knowledge and collaborative approaches to achieve sustainable food sovereignty in urban contexts, ensuring food security and promoting community well-being.
