Counseling as one of the forms and techniques of assistance provided by schools in the context of implementing overall guidance, this is given to help students in their efforts to solve all problems. The availability of this information makes it easy for students to obtain the information needed for example to implement a decision, want to know about something both in terms of themselves and their environment. The use of self and environmental information in the counseling process occurs in the creation of rapport, in exploring, discovering the real problem, exploring and studying alternative problem solving, decision making, implementation of decisions taken and in evaluation and follow-up. Therefore the information used must meet the requirements: that is, careful and not prejudiced, up to date, comprehensive and available information sources. In addition to the above conditions, the principles of time saving, non-authoritarian and feedback are also taken into account, so that this can cause self and environmental information in the counseling process to be very important material for both the counselor and the client.

Counseling is a core component of school guidance activities, aiming to assist individuals in resolving problems and achieving a fulfilling life.The success of counseling relies heavily on the utilization of information about the individual being assisted.This information is used throughout the counseling process, from building rapport to evaluation and follow-up.The information used must be accurate, current, comprehensive, and readily available, adhering to principles of efficiency, non-directiveness, and feedback.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi efektivitas penggunaan teknologi dalam pengumpulan dan analisis informasi diri dan lingkungan siswa, seperti penggunaan aplikasi atau platform digital untuk mengelola catatan kumulatif siswa secara lebih efisien dan terintegrasi. Selain itu, penelitian dapat difokuskan pada pengembangan model konseling yang lebih adaptif dan responsif terhadap kebutuhan unik siswa dari berbagai latar belakang budaya dan sosial-ekonomi, dengan mempertimbangkan peran informasi diri dan lingkungan dalam membentuk identitas dan aspirasi mereka. Terakhir, penelitian dapat menginvestigasi dampak pelatihan konselor dalam penggunaan informasi diri dan lingkungan terhadap kualitas layanan konseling yang diberikan, serta mengidentifikasi praktik-praktik terbaik yang dapat diadopsi untuk meningkatkan kompetensi konselor dalam bidang ini. Penelitian-penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam meningkatkan efektivitas layanan konseling di sekolah dan membantu siswa mencapai potensi optimal mereka.
