Stroke is a leading non-communicable disease causing disability and death worldwide, resulting in physical impairments and psychological impacts. Family support plays a vital role in providing motivation, emotional stability, and assistance with daily activities, enhancing morale, treatment adherence, and overall quality of life. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design involved 90 respondents and utilized the Family Support Questionnaire and the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL) questionnaire. Statistical analysis revealed a strong and significant correlation between family support and quality of life (r = 0.799; p = 0.000). Enhanced family support significantly contributes to better adaptation and improved well-being among stroke survivors.

This study concludes that a strong and significant relationship exists between family support and the quality of life of stroke patients at Raden Mattaher Regional General Hospital in Jambi. The majority of respondents received good family support and reported a good quality of life, indicating the crucial role of family in patient adaptation and well-being.These findings emphasize the importance of involving families in rehabilitation programs and providing them with education and support.

Based on the findings, future research should explore the impact of specific types of family support (emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal) on different dimensions of quality of life in stroke patients. Furthermore, studies could investigate the effectiveness of family-centered interventions designed to enhance support and improve patient outcomes. Finally, research is needed to understand the role of cultural factors and socioeconomic status in shaping family support dynamics and their influence on the quality of life of stroke survivors, particularly in the context of limited healthcare resources and access. These investigations should aim to develop tailored interventions that address the unique needs of stroke patients and their families, ultimately promoting better adaptation, well-being, and long-term recovery. A longitudinal study tracking the changes in family support and quality of life over time could provide valuable insights into the long-term effects of stroke and the effectiveness of different support strategies. Additionally, exploring the perspectives of both patients and family members through qualitative research methods could offer a deeper understanding of the challenges and successes of navigating life after stroke.
