Ineffective breastfeeding is a condition where the mother and baby experience dissatisfaction or difficulty during the breastfeeding process. Breast milk can be effectively expelled from the breast by stimulating the oxytocin reflex. One way to stimulate the oxytocin reflex is to massage the mother with oxytocin. Oxytocin massage can be combined with lavender aromatherapy oil because spinal massage and the aroma of lavender aromatherapy oil, perceived through the sense of smell, can quickly increase the release of the hormone oxytocin. This study aimed to determine and analyze nursing care for postpartum mothers with ineffective breastfeeding problems by using oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil. A qualitative method was used, involving 3 participants meeting the inclusion criteria. Data was collected using an observation sheet for breast milk flow from maternal and infant factors, and an operational procedure standard for oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil. The results showed that before the intervention, participants were not breastfeeding smoothly, but after the intervention, they were breastfeeding smoothly. The conclusion of this study is that oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil can increase the flow of breast milk.

The study concluded that before the intervention, breast milk flow was not smooth for all participants, based on both maternal and infant factors.Following the application of oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil, breast milk flow improved to smooth for all participants, as indicated by both maternal and infant factors. Therefore, oxytocin massage combined with lavender aromatherapy oil is effective in increasing breast milk flow.

Further research should investigate the long-term effects of oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil on breastfeeding duration and infant weight gain. Additionally, studies could explore the optimal duration and frequency of massage sessions to maximize oxytocin release and improve milk flow. Investigating the impact of this intervention on maternal psychological well-being, such as reducing postpartum stress and anxiety, is also warranted. Considering the potential benefits, future studies could compare the effectiveness of oxytocin massage with lavender aromatherapy oil to other established interventions for improving breastfeeding, such as lactation consultation or galactagogues. Finally, research should explore the feasibility and acceptability of implementing this intervention in various healthcare settings, including home visits and community health centers, to ensure wider access for mothers experiencing breastfeeding challenges. These investigations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the benefits and practical applications of this promising approach to support successful breastfeeding.
