This study examines the ethical implications of the AI-assisted writing tools integration, such as Grammarly, in English language instruction, based on the perspectives of 30 English lecturers in Indonesia. The research aims to understand lecturers views regarding the application of AI in writing courses, integrity, student learning, especially concerning academic autonomy, and fairness. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and analyzed thematically with the help of NVivo software. The results suggest that numerous lecturers recognize the advances of AI tools—such as real-time feedback, improved writing accuracy, and increased efficiency— concerns persist about excessive dependence on AI, erosion of critical thinking skills, and algorithmic bias. The study also reveals a lack of institutional guidelines to support ethical AI integration. Lecturers emphasized the need for balanced use, combining AI tools with traditional teaching methods, alongside training and clear policies to guide ethical application.

The revelations help create practical rules for the ethical incorporation of AI in writing settings in higher education.Lecturers recognize the benefits of AI-assisted writing tools, such as real-time feedback and improved writing quality, yet they also express concerns about academic integrity, student dependency, algorithmic bias, and the absence of institutional guidelines.Therefore, institutions should formulate clear policies that support ethical and effective AI integration, ensuring AI serves as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for critical thinking and original authorship.

Berdasarkan latar belakang, metode, hasil, keterbatasan, dan saran penelitian lanjutan, berikut adalah saran penelitian lanjutan yang baru:. . Pertama, penelitian lebih lanjut dapat mengkaji dampak penggunaan AI terhadap kemampuan menulis mahasiswa dari berbagai latar belakang budaya dan bahasa. Hal ini penting untuk memastikan bahwa AI tidak memperburuk kesenjangan pendidikan yang sudah ada dan memberikan dukungan yang adil bagi semua mahasiswa.. . Kedua, penelitian bisa mengeksplorasi pengembangan pelatihan khusus bagi dosen mengenai penggunaan etis dan efektif AI dalam pengajaran menulis. Pelatihan ini dapat mencakup topik-topik seperti mengenali bias dalam AI, menjaga integritas akademik, dan mengintegrasikan AI secara bermakna ke dalam kurikulum.. . Ketiga, penelitian lanjutan dapat fokus pada pengembangan kerangka kerja kebijakan institusional yang jelas dan komprehensif tentang penggunaan AI dalam pendidikan tinggi. Kerangka kerja ini harus mencakup panduan tentang penggunaan AI yang bertanggung jawab, penilaian kejujuran akademik, dan perlindungan terhadap bias algoritmik, sehingga tercipta lingkungan pembelajaran yang adil dan inklusif bagi semua mahasiswa.
