Vibrio harveyi bacteria is one of the main causes of mass death in shrimp in a short time. Chaya (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) is a common plant that grows in many places in Central America, Mexicos Yucatan Peninsula and has been widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of secondary metabolites in chaya leaves as an antibakery against Vibrio harveyi and to analyze the amount of inhibition of chaya leaves against Vibrio harveyi bacteria. The method used in this study was experimental with 4 treatments with 3 replicates each, namely A (Chaya leaf extract 500 μg/mL), B (Chaya leaf extract 1000 μg/mL), C (Oxytetraciclyn antibiotic) and D (Ethanol 96%). The research was carried out from June to July 2024 at the Parasitic and Fish Laboratory, Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University. The results showed that the activity of chaya leaf extract (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) did not show inhibition against V. harveyi bacteria at concentrations of 500 and 1000 μg/mL. Likewise, 96% ethanol does not show resistance to V. harveyi bacteria. The inhibitory activity of Oxytetracyclin showed inhibitory activity with an average inhibitory force size of 9.26 mm. This is suspected to be due to the low sensitivity of chaya leaf extract to V. harveyi bacteria. V. harveyi is known as a bacterium with a high level of malignancy when infecting, so it is suspected that it needs a substance with stronger inhibitory activity.

Ekstrak daun chaya mengandung senyawa aktif phytol dengan sifat antibakteri, tetapi tidak efektif menghambat Vibrio harveyi.Pengujian menunjukkan bahwa hanya Oxytetracyclin berhasil menghambat bakteri tersebut.Hasil ini menunjukkan keterbatasan efektivitas ekstrak chaya dalam konteks penghambatan Vibrio harveyi.

Penelitian lanjutan dapat mengkaji pengaruh konsentrasi ekstrak chaya yang lebih tinggi terhadap Vibrio harveyi untuk meningkatkan efektivitas penghambatan. Selain itu, studi tentang kombinasi ekstrak chaya dengan bahan antimikroba lainnya dapat menjadi arah baru dalam pengembangan pengobatan alami. Terakhir, penelitian tentang potensi senyawa aktif chaya terhadap bakteri lain yang lebih rentan dapat membuka peluang aplikasi lebih luas dalam bidang kesehatan dan akuakultur.
