MULTITEK INDONESIA : JURNAL ILMIAHMULTITEK INDONESIA : JURNAL ILMIAHCocoa is a leading Indonesian commodity, but the quality of its beans remains low due to traditional drying methods that depend on the weather, often resulting in moisture content that falls short of the standard 6–8%. This research developed a direct-type active solar dryer based on solar energy to improve the efficiency and quality of cocoa bean drying. The system was designed using a 200–300 Wp solar panel, a 12 V battery, a 150 W heater, an exhaust fan, and an Arduino-based automatic control system to regulate temperature, humidity, and airflow. Test results showed that the drying chamber temperature reached 45–60°C with an air velocity of 1.5–2.5 m/s. Cocoa beans with an initial moisture content of 45–55% could be dried to 6–8% in 20–24 hours at a temperature of 50–55°C and an air velocity of 2.0–2.5 m/s. The systems thermal efficiency reached 28–42%, higher than conventional drying (±10%), which requires 4–6 days. Statistical analysis using ANOVA and multiple linear regression showed that temperature and air velocity significantly influenced drying time (p < 0.05). The beans quality was more uniform, hygienic, and the fermented aroma was maintained. This system has the potential to be implemented on a farmer and UMKM as a sustainable drying solution based on renewable energy.
Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa solar dryer aktif berbasis energi surya secara signifikan meningkatkan efisiensi dan mutu pengeringan biji kakao fermentasi dibandingkan penjemuran konvensional.Sistem dengan panel surya 200–300 Wp, heater 150 W, exhaust fan, dan kontrol otomatis mampu menghasilkan suhu stabil 45–60°C dan aliran udara 1,5–2,5 m/s.Kondisi optimal diperoleh pada suhu 50–55°C, kecepatan udara 2,0–2,5 m/s, dan RH 30–40%, yang menghasilkan waktu pengeringan 20–24 jam dengan efisiensi termal 28–42%.Suhu dan kecepatan udara terbukti berpengaruh signifikan (p < 0,05) terhadap waktu pengeringan.Mutu biji kakao lebih seragam, aroma fermentasi terjaga, kadar air akhir mencapai 6–8%, serta tingkat kontaminasi sangat rendah.Teknologi ini efektif, efisien, dan berpotensi diterapkan pada skala petani dan UMKM.
Berdasarkan penelitian ini, terdapat beberapa saran penelitian lanjutan yang dapat dikembangkan. Pertama, perlu dilakukan studi lebih lanjut mengenai pengaruh variasi material atap solar dryer terhadap efisiensi penyerapan panas dan kestabilan suhu di dalam ruang pengering, dengan mempertimbangkan biaya dan ketersediaan material lokal. Kedua, pengembangan sistem penyimpanan energi tambahan, seperti baterai atau thermal storage, dapat memastikan proses pengeringan tetap berjalan optimal meskipun saat cuaca mendung atau malam hari. Ketiga, integrasi sensor dan sistem kontrol yang lebih canggih, seperti Internet of Things (IoT), dapat memungkinkan pemantauan dan pengendalian jarak jauh terhadap parameter pengeringan, sehingga petani dapat mengoptimalkan proses pengeringan secara real-time dan meningkatkan kualitas produk kakao secara konsisten. Dengan demikian, teknologi solar dryer aktif dapat menjadi solusi berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan kualitas pengeringan biji kakao, serta mendukung peningkatan daya saing produk kakao Indonesia di pasar global.
