This study aims to analyse the learning motivation of Grade IX students at SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya using the ARCS model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) assisted by PhET simulation media. A quantitative descriptive method was used with a questionnaire consisting of 20 items, each representing one ARCS component. Data were analysed using a percentage formula (NP = R/SM × 100%) to determine the motivation level category. The results showed that all ARCS components were in the high to very high categories, with Satisfaction scoring the highest at 87.75%. These findings suggest that PhET simulations positively influence students learning motivation. The study highlights the potential of technology-based media to enhance student engagement and learning satisfaction. It is recommended that educators integrate such tools into teaching to support students motivation and improve learning outcomes.

The study concludes that the learning motivation of Grade IX students at SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya is generally high to very high, as indicated by the ARCS model analysis.The implementation of learning strategies incorporating the ARCS model, particularly with the support of PhET Simulations, effectively addresses students motivational needs.These findings underscore the importance of teachers designing learning experiences that consider both content and the psychological and motivational factors of students to enhance learning effectiveness.

Further research could explore the long-term effects of integrating PhET simulations and the ARCS model on students academic performance and attitudes towards science. Additionally, investigating the effectiveness of this approach across different subject areas and grade levels is warranted to determine its broader applicability. Finally, a study examining the role of teacher training and professional development in successfully implementing the ARCS model with technology-based tools could provide valuable insights for improving educational practices and maximizing student engagement and learning outcomes. These investigations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how to leverage technology and motivational frameworks to create more effective and engaging learning environments for all students.
