In a crisis that occurs in an organization, Public Relations (PR) is a crucial function bridging communication between the organization and the public. This research employs descriptive qualitative methods to understand the Public Relations Crisis Communication of the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic in its post-crisis image recovery efforts. The findings indicate that the image maintenance process during a crisis unfolds in four stages: Denial, where positive information about the institution is emphasized to counter negative narratives; Evasion of Responsibility, involving convincing stakeholders of the organizations lack of intent to cause harm and full support for a fair legal process; Reducing Offensiveness, highlighting past positive actions to mitigate negative perceptions; and Corrective Action, ensuring proper handling of the crisis to prevent recurrence.

The study concludes that the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnics Public Relations department addressed the crisis through a four-stage process encompassing denial, evasion of responsibility, reducing offensiveness, and corrective action.This approach aimed to manage the narrative, demonstrate accountability, and restore the institutions image.Effective crisis communication involved controlling information flow and consistently disseminating positive messaging.Ultimately, the Polytechnics response sought to mitigate damage and prevent future incidents.

Penelitian lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi efektivitas strategi komunikasi krisis yang berbeda dalam konteks pendidikan maritim, dengan mempertimbangkan karakteristik unik dari institusi seperti Politeknik Pelayaran Surabaya. Selain itu, studi komparatif antara Politeknik Pelayaran Surabaya dengan institusi pendidikan maritim lainnya yang pernah menghadapi krisis serupa dapat memberikan wawasan berharga tentang praktik terbaik dalam manajemen reputasi. Terakhir, penelitian kualitatif mendalam yang melibatkan perspektif mahasiswa, dosen, dan orang tua dapat mengungkap dampak psikologis dan sosial dari krisis terhadap komunitas kampus, serta mengidentifikasi kebutuhan komunikasi yang belum terpenuhi.
