Pregnancy is a natural process that is accompanied by physical and psychological changes. These changes can trigger mental disorders such as anxiety, especially if they are not properly managed. These conditions may affect both maternal and fetal health. The purpose of this study is to determine how common anxiety is among pregnant women in Banjarmasin and to examine how age, parity, education, income, and employment relate to anxiety during pregnancy. This research applies a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 33 pregnant women were chosen using a purposive sampling method. Anxiety during pregnancy was measured using the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS). The relationships between the studied variables were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The study found that 11 respondents (33.3%) were asymptomatic, while 22 respondents (66.7%) experienced anxiety during pregnancy. Moreover, significant correlations were found between age, parity, education level, income, and employment status with the level of anxiety experienced. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating antenatal care (ANC) with routine anxiety screening and counseling programs, so that mental health problems can be detected and managed early during pregnancy.

This study revealed that a significant proportion, 66.The analysis demonstrated significant correlations between maternal age, parity, education level, family income, and employment status with anxiety levels during pregnancy. These findings underscore the necessity of incorporating routine anxiety screening and counseling into antenatal care services to facilitate early detection and management of mental health concerns in pregnant women.

Further research should investigate the effectiveness of various interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based programs, in reducing anxiety levels among pregnant women in Banjarmasin. Additionally, studies could explore the role of social support networks, including family and community involvement, in mitigating anxiety and promoting positive mental health during pregnancy. Finally, future research should focus on developing and evaluating culturally tailored mental health resources and educational materials specifically designed for pregnant women in the local context, considering the unique socio-economic and cultural factors prevalent in Banjarmasin. These investigations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the determinants of anxiety in pregnancy and inform the development of targeted interventions to improve maternal well-being.
