This study aims to analyze the stability of a counterfort retaining wall constructed on soft cohesive soil at the Sakan–Mendawai drainage project in Palangka Raya. Analytical methods based on Rankines earth pressure theory were used to calculate safety factors against overturning, sliding, and bearing failure, resulting in values of 5.644, 4.513, and 10.741, respectively. To complement the analysis, numerical modelling using PLAXIS was applied specifically to estimate the overall stability of the wall–soil system, yielding a safety factor of 1.503. The results confirm that the design meets loading criteria under standard conditions. While the numerical model was limited to overall safety assessment, the combination of analytical and numerical approaches offers a clear and practical evaluation of retaining wall performance in soft soil contexts.

The study demonstrates the effectiveness of combining analytical and numerical methods for assessing retaining wall stability in soft soil.Analytical results using Rankines theory showed satisfactory safety factors against overturning, sliding, and bearing capacity.Complementary numerical modeling with PLAXIS validated these results, confirming the walls stability under static loading.This integrated approach provides a robust framework for future studies in challenging geotechnical environments.

Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk mengkaji pengaruh variasi parameter tanah terhadap stabilitas dinding penahan, termasuk sensitivitas terhadap perubahan muka air tanah dan tingkat kepadatan tanah. Studi eksperimen di laboratorium dan pemodelan numerik lanjutan dapat digunakan untuk memahami perilaku tanah yang lebih kompleks dan mengoptimalkan desain dinding penahan. Selain itu, penelitian perlu difokuskan pada pengembangan metode perbaikan tanah yang efektif dan ekonomis, seperti penggunaan bahan tambahan seperti biopolimer atau geotextil, untuk meningkatkan kekuatan dan daya tahan dinding penahan di lingkungan tanah lunak. Investigasi lebih lanjut mengenai efektivitas kombinasi berbagai teknik perbaikan tanah juga diperlukan untuk mencapai solusi yang paling optimal dan berkelanjutan, terutama dalam konteks proyek drainase perkotaan di wilayah dengan karakteristik tanah yang serupa.
