This study aims to develop and evaluate teaching materials in the form of printed books and e-books for the Ornamen Nusantara course, focusing on the ornamental design of the Hulu Keris Melayu Tumbuk Lada. The development process employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The results indicate that the teaching materials are valid (78.75%), practical (82.15%), and effective (88.53%). Their use has been shown to enhance students understanding of traditional ornamental richness; particularly the Melayu Tumbuk Lada ornament; and to encourage the preservation of local cultural values. More broadly, the findings contribute to strengthening cultural identity in art education and support the development of creative industries based on cultural heritage.

The application of local culture in teaching materials proved to support contextual preservation and learning. This teaching material, highlighting the Hulu Keris Melayu Tumbuk Lada ornament, was tested for validity, effectiveness, and practicality, demonstrating its success in aiding student learning. The research findings indicate the material is fairly valid, practical, and effective for use in teaching, with students showing very active participation and achieving complete learning outcomes.Further research is recommended to expand the scope to include other Nusantara ornaments and explore the impact on students creativity.

Future research should investigate the potential of incorporating diverse Nusantara ornaments into teaching materials to broaden students understanding of Indonesian decorative arts. Additionally, studies could explore the effectiveness of these culturally-rooted materials in fostering students creative problem-solving skills and innovative design thinking. Expanding on this, research could examine how the integration of digital technologies, such as augmented reality or virtual reality, can enhance the learning experience and provide students with immersive opportunities to interact with and analyze traditional ornaments. Finally, a longitudinal study tracking the long-term impact of this approach on students cultural identity and their engagement with the creative industries would be valuable, providing insights into the sustainability of cultural preservation efforts through art education. These investigations will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how to effectively leverage cultural heritage to enrich art education and cultivate a new generation of culturally aware and creative artists.
